Virginia Durrance
Women in Transition
Louisville, KY
My name is Virginia Durrance, it was 2002-2003 when I started to get involved in Child Protective Service. Cabinet felt that I was neglecting my kids because of inability of keeping stable home. I have two daughters, Tiffany and Nicole, living with me until I lost my job and apartment then CPS came and took my kids. I went into Shelter in Lexington for 7-8 months, while working at waffle house. During those days, I didn’t get to see Tiffany or Nicole.
Tiffany developed her anger problem that she had to stay in the place at Rush, KY where children with bad behavior go. I went to see her and stayed in a hotel there for a week. Tiffany was sent back to Louisville, because the hospital she goes to was in Louisville and her foster family lives in Shelby county. I stayed in a shelter for 10 months while visiting Tiffany in hospital, she had cancer.

Later on, I got to move into section 8 for 3 years. I didn’t realize at that time that I still had custody of Tiffany but after I realized this it was too late to bring her back with me and she got adopted. 2003, August 15th, Nicole came back. The CPS worker told me that Tiffany was in coma in the hospital on September 14th. In 2004, I found that Tiffany passed away as I read newspaper noticing her last name and middle name were changed.
