We live in a rich country..... Why is our health care system so poor?

My name is Toni Washington. I am from Philadelphia and I am a musician and I care. I am the founder of an organization called Healthy Music Matters. Prior to 2001 Healthy Music Matters was just a thought. Since becoming serious about the idea we have assisted several musicians and their families in emergency health related situations. We have produced countless fundraisers to help with issues from health care to burials. Over the years I have worked in the health care and insurance industries. I have seen first hand the billions of dollars that gets shuffled around on paper with most of it not being spent on those who have a genuine need. I have seen claims denied and I have seen people go without treatment just because they simply couldn't afford it.

I got away from both industry's a while back only to return recently. Because I needed a job. I have heard the devastating and horrifying stories particularly about this proposed Part D for seniors . As a customer service rep and being in the line of fire it would break my heart when they would explain their situation to me and wonder why their claims would not be paid or they couldn't afford their medicine.

After all many had worked much of their lives but were on fixed incomes and couldn't afford to pay. Not to long after I reentered that field I decided once again to leave . Since before 2001 I have fought to get answers for affordable or alternative health care. I have surfed the net and made many calls. I still haven't found the answers.

The time for us to get it together is now. We need to do all that we can to make our state reps and congress people hear what we are saying and don't talk about it be about it. Actively communicate with one another and give back to the people what we deserve. A fair chance to be healthy.

Thank you!
