Right to The Right to Water, Utilities, Food, and other basic necessities

My name is Brenda Pitts.  I am on fixed income, and I have a difficult time paying for utility bills, student loans and medications, and then having enough money for food.  When I was living in private rental housing, I did not have enough money to pay my rent and utilities and they were shut off.  Fortunately, I was eventually able to get into public housing and was therefore able to again have a roof over my head with gas and electric, but many are not that fortunate.

Nevertheless, with an income of less than $600 a month, I have a difficult time making ends meet.  I go to charitable free food programs to get the food that I need, but still do not have the money to pay for the eighteen medications that I require.  I have multiple sclerosis, but do not have adequate funds to pay for my necessary medications for this problem, so I go without my medications.

The cost of living is rising, and even if I get an increase in my SSI, it gets eaten up by increases in housing and utility costs.  Things just get worse.

We appreciate the support that each and every individual here is giving to end the barriers of poverty.
