Christopher Turner who is 29 years old and lives in Newark, New Jersey does not have health insurance. Recently he suffered from an upper respiratory infection, which put him in the hospital. Christopher was in the hospital for a week. After leaving the hospital he was given a $38,000 bill for the services rendered by the hospital. Although Christopher is no longer in the hospital he still must go to the doctor for weekly follow-ups. Christopher’s follow-ups cost him $50 each time he goes. There are many Americans who do not have health insurance and hope they never get sick. Christopher was one of these Americans, however, he did become ill. If Christopher had opted not to see a doctor the consequences could have been quite severe. As it turns out, the consequences of seeing a doctor also became severe for Christopher because he is now stuck with an overly expensive bill that he does not have the money to pay. Healthcare for all people could have eliminated the $38,000 burden that Christopher must now pay.
