FACES OF THE FALLEN / Cely Coleman

previous | back to faces | next

Michael ValentCely Coleman has health insurance for her children, which she believes is a blessing, but she does not have health insurance for herself. If she gets sick and needs a doctor’s treatment, she worries who will take care of her children and how will she pay the bill. Currently, Cely is unemployed but prior to being unemployed she had been working for the last 20 years. She, however, is not able to get health insurance. Although the Universal Declaration was ratified by the United States and other countries in 1948, with Article 25 stating that we have a right to medical care, Cely is yet another example of someone in America whose economic human rights are being violated.
