Alfonso Massoni who is 46 years old lives in Elizabeth, New Jersey. Neither he, nor his family has health insurance. At one time Alfonso was having serious problems with his toenail and had to seek medical attention. It cost him over $250 to have his nail treated. Alfonso works at a factory, earning a mere $6/hour. Six dollars an hour is not a living wage. Things are even harder since his rent is over $700 a month. In America the majority of the uninsured are those who work. Alfonso is an example. Not only does Alfonso not have health care, but he also does not have a living wage job, which is another violation of his economic human rights under Article 23 (“right to a job with just and favorable conditions of work and a living wage”) of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
