Harvey Finkle is a documentary photographer who has produced a substantial body of work concerned with social, political and cultural issues. His work has been extensively exhibited and published. Three books of his work have been published: "Urban Nomads", a documentation of the Kensington Welfare Rights Union, a poor people's movement emanating from the poorest neighborhood in Pennsylvania and evolving into a spearhead of human rights organizing throughout the nation; "Urban Mosaic: New Immigrants in America"; and "Readers". Finkle continues his long standing involvement with KWRU. His other longterm involvements include The Abolitionists (an anti death penalty movement), ADAPT (a disability rights organization) and Deaf Culture, at this specifically photgraphing in the Deaf-Blind community. His work has been exhibited in Museums and cultural institutions as well as universities, major libraries, churches and union halls.

Steve Powers is a West Philadelphia native that has lived and worked in Manhattan for 10 years. He has shown at Deitch Projects in the "Street Market" exhibition with Barry McGee and Todd James, and in the group exhibition "Session The Bowl". He currently has a solo show at Deitch Projects from June 25- August 7.

Anthony Smryski is a visual artist and graphic designer. He is a Philadelphia native and was raised in the working class neighborhood of Port Richmond. He currently has a studio at Space 1026 in Philadelphia and works in digital and traditional mediums. He is co-editor of WORK Magazine (www.workmag.net) and recently had a solo installation show at Space 1026 entitled "Empty" as well as an installation piece for the "Sub-Urban" group show at the 1300 Gallery in Cleveland, Ohio. Amy Hodges, a native of Aberdeen, Maryland holds a BA in photography from Virginia Intermont College. She has been living and working in New York since 1999 and is currently based out of Brooklyn. The work included in the auction is from a series she shot in 1998 while living in Baltimore. The series represents the various textures of inner city life and the subsequent deterioration unfolding daily.

Tim Wright, born 1974, was raised in Sonora, CA and began taking photographs at age thirteen with his fathers camera. After a brief stint at the San Francisco Art Institute he became a touring musician and throughout numerous cross country tours began to document the deserted and forgotten American roadside. The current series began in 2000 during a brief tour with Ted Leo and the Pharmacists and most recently with The Eaves.

Sara Macel was born and raised in Spring, TX, a small town near the Houston city limits, in 1981. She received her B.A. in Photography and Imaging from New York University in 2003. While a student at NYU, she received the Tobias Award for her project titled "Kiss + Tell". Currently, she is the assistant and studio manager for Magnum photographer Bruce Davidson. Her work will be included in the "Unframed / First Look" show held at the Sean Kelly Gallery, NYC July 28-August 6. Sara Macel currently lives in Brooklyn, NY.

Liz Ronk holds an MFA in Visual Culture from the Visual Studies Workshop in Rochester, NY and a BFA in Photography from Tisch School of the Arts at New York University. She has spent the past 3 years shooting a documentary in Saratoga Springs NY, working on the backstretch of the Saratoga Racetrack. Her interest in countercultures goes back to her days as a skateboarder in the 1990s, documenting the surroundings of the downtown scene. Liz has exhibited nationally and has been featured in various publications including The Saratoga Special, The New York Thoroughbred Horseman's Association NewsLetter, and Dysfunctional. She is currently documenting the Backstretch Educational Program at Belmont in Elmont, Long Island and teaching a workshop at The National Musuem of Racing and Hall of Fame.

Her paintings have been featured in the film "Bomb the System". She is currently the Director of Art and Culture for the Poor People's Economic Human Rights Campaign.

John Breiner, born 1980 outside of Poughkeepsie, NY, received his degree in Illustration from the School Of Visual Arts. He has shown his work in the P.P.O.W. gallery and curated the Annual Grand Champions Forever art show. In the past few years he completed several large scale murals throughout the borough of Brooklyn as well as organized events for Room Service Productions and completed several Album Covers for various Hip Hop musicians.

Marilee Sweeney is a painter and clothing designer based in Venice, California. Trained at Parsons in New York, she has her own clothing line, Ostinato (ostinatoclothing.com), and sponsors several woman atheletes, musicians, writers, painters, and b-girls. She looks to women bullfighters, skateboarders, and flamenco dancers for inspiration.

The work included in the auction is from the series "parallels" which deals with scientific theory.

Yuko Kitajima is a photographer originally from Yuki, Japan. She came to New York in 1992 to attend the Fashion Institute of Technology and has been based here since. She had a solo show at the James Fuentes Gallery in New York, has been published in various Japanese magazines and her work can currently be seen in the art magazine, Arkitip. The photograph included in the auction is from a series about her small hometown outside of Tokyo.

John Francis Peters holds a degree in Graphic Design from SVA in New York. While a student, he studied documentary photography with Meril Levin. He has worked as a designer for Def Jam Records and his work has appeared in The Village Voice, Fader Magazine, and Mass Appeal. In 2001 he had a solo show at The School of Visual Arts titled BQE which focused on the homeless community along the Brooklyn Queens Expressway.

In May, she completed work on her Master of Fine Arts degree in Visual Studies at the Visual Studies Workshop in Rochester, New York. July 19, 1969 is a new body of work that is part of an installation entitled Album that contains photographic prints, artist books and digital video. Her work is held in several public and private collections throughout the United States and is being exhibited this summer in Colorado and Virginia.

Leigh Klonsky is an artist and designer working in Brooklyn. Born in Chicago, graduated with a BFA from the University of Wisconsin - Madison, her work has been strongly influenced by her involvement in social justice movements. Her prints have been shown recently in Chicago as well as in the streets of Brooklyn. The piece shown here is part of a series inspired by the community control movement in Brooklyn and the resulting teachers strike of 1968.

Hugh Gran, a native New Yorker and Parsons School of Design graduate received a BFA in Illustration in 1996. Since finishing school, he has worked primarily as a freelance artist/designer/photographer/ videographer. He has worked for independent news groups dedicated to reporting non corporate views of the news including Independent Media Center of NY, DCTV, FSTV, MNN and Konscious Media. He is currently teaching at Parsons while he continues his freelance work.

Jonathan Hounshell holds a BA from Virginia Intermont College and is working towards his MFA in Printmaking at East Tennessee State University (December 2004). He is currently an adjunct teacher at ETSU and his work can be seen in an upcoming one man exhibition, February 2005 at Virginia Intermont College. "Derived greatly from the eye of the camera, my artwork explores the intricacies of time and the specificity of place, the now and the historical, and how my experiences, especially in traveling the world, are like cogs in the larger mechanism of both personal and global history. My current series has an aesthetic link to the media of video but each piece is like a frozen echo of a moving moment trapped on paper." This is Jonathan's first appearance in a New York Gallery.

Michael Konrad was born in Essex County, New Jersey in 1979.  He received his Bachelor’s degree in studio art from New York University in 2001.  Drawing inspiration from the industrial landscapes of New York and New Jersey, his work has addressed issues related to traffic, construction, and the urban environment.  His work has been exhibited in the United States and Europe.  He currently lives and works in East Harlem in New York City.
